Brooklyn College SAAC Brings Joy To Local Children!

The Brooklyn College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made its fifth consecutive visit to New York Methodist Hospital’s Children’s Ward. On January 4th, SAAC members went to the hospital to hand out toys as well as autographed pictures to the children, in addition to taking some time to interact with them. The tradition started in the spring of 2004 and the SAAC has gone every year since.

Jay Fong, a sophomore member of the Men’s Cross Country Team, was one of the student-athletes who took part in the trip, said, “It was a great experience! Many of these kids were not much younger than we are. You talk to them and find out that we have a lot of stuff in common.” SAAC President Ferdi Ozsoy, a senior Men’s Volleyball player realized that “being injured or tired from playing our sport is nothing compared to what they have to go through every day.” Each of the student-athletes, athletics and hospital staff, and the children, who were involved, were deeply impacted by the day's interaction. The amount of time that is contributed leaves memories that will not be soon forgotten. Because of this, the SAAC is grateful that they can be involved and looks forward to the next trip.
