Women's Basketball Improves To 2-0; Head To Ramapo Tip-Off Championship Game

Mahwah, NJ---Sophomore Megan Davidson (St. Edmund Prep / Brooklyn, NY) scored a season-high 15 points to lead a balanced attack as the Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (2-0) cruised to an 81-56 victory over Newbury College (0-2) on Friday evening in the first round of the Ramapo College Tip-Off Tournament.  

The Bridges jumped out to an early 16-6 lead as junior Eja Wong (Chatsworth (CA) / New York, NY) scored seven points in the game's first four minutes.  After back-to-back Newbury baskets, BC erupted on a 19-4 run to take their largest lead of the half, 35-14 with over six minutes remaining.  Brooklyn shot a scintilating 51.4 percent (19-for-37) from the floor in the first stanza and took a 46-29 lead into the lockerroom.

The second period opened with the Bridges scoring 16 of the first 21 points to extend their margin to 26 points at 66-40 on a Davidson jumper midway through the half.  Newbury never made a serious run at Brooklyn, who saw 11 different players score field goals in the game.

Junior Christina Belfiore (Staten Island Tech / Staten Island, NY) scored 11 points off the bench. Freshman Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) had a team-high 10 rebounds for Brooklyn, while freshman Jasmine Campbell (Copiague / Copiague, NY) added career-highs of 10 points and eight boards. 

Brooklyn will battle the host school, Ramapo College, in tomorrow's championship game at 3:00 pm.
