Women's Tennis Headed To The CUNYAC Semifinals

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (11-5), the #2 seed, won their CUNYAC Quarterfinal match over visiting CCNY, the #7 seed, 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  

In doubles play, Brooklyn won the #2 and #3 matches with ease, while CCNY nabbed their lone victory in the #1 match..  

It was Nadine Alexander (Boys & Girls / Brooklyn, NY) and Erika Gil (Fort Hamilton / Brooklyn, NY) who have teamed up all year at #2 doubles, to get things started with the victory over CCNY's Janine Beckles and Katherine Gomero, 8-1.

Amalea Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) and Diana Rafailova (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) paired up to top Natalie St. Eloi and Naydine Johnye, 8-1.

GIl and Sideris were also victorious in singles play as Gil beat her #3 opponent, Beckles, 6-3, 6-0 and Sideris knocked off Gomero 6-0, 6-1.

Diana Derks (Herlong / Frankfurt, Germany) won her #5 singles match over City's St. Eloi, 6-2, 6-1, as BC clinched the win and advanced to the semifinal round where they will take on the #3 seed Baruch College on Friday at 4pm.  The semifinal and final round will be played at the National Tennis Center in Flushing.

Both Alexander and Ruth Perez (EBC Bushwick / Brooklyn, NY) were ahead in singles play when the Brooklyn clinched the match.
