Flushing, NY---The City University of New York Athletic Conference released the 2009 Women's Tennis All-Star Team and Brooklyn College was very well represented as five team members earned recognition.
First-year tennis player,
Amalea Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) was named conference rookie of the year after a season that saw her go 11-4 in singles play, including an outstanding 8-0 record in regular season CUNYAC matches. Sideris was also outstanding in doubles play, going 11-5 on the season with a variety of partners.
Nadine Alexander (Boys & Girls / Brooklyn, NY),
Erika Gil (Fort Hamilton / Brooklyn, NY) and
Diana Derks (Herlong / Frankfurt, Germany) were each named to First-Team All-Conference, while
Olexandra Ovsiy (American / Dnepropetrousk, Ukraine) was named to the Second-Team.
Alexander and Derks were 6-1 in CUNYAC singles play, while Gil was a perfect 8-0 against conference opponents. Ovsiy, the 2008 Rookie of the Year, was 7-2 in league play.
