Members of the Brooklyn College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee visited the Children's ward of New York Methodist Hospital, in what has become an annual tradition.
The student-athletes brought gifts for the children and engaged in some friendly conversation, which included topics ranging from sports to college life. Many of the children visited were sports fans and excited to have the visit from the group of college athletes.
Not only did the children at New York Methodist gain something from the experience, but the student-athletes benefited as well. “I never realized what a positive effect my peers and I could have on someone who is younger than us and going through a tough time,” said Leah Wimpfheimer, who is a member of the Women's Cross Country Team and is President of the SAAC.
Thomas Guerin, a member of the Men's Basketball Team, was on the trip for the second time. “After coming last year and seeing the smiles we brought to the kids' faces, I was excited about returning and getting a chance to help out once again,” said Guerin. “Lots of times as young athletes we take things for granted, but days like this give us perspective.”
