Women's Basketball Named 3rd Most Improved In Nation

Indianapolis, IN---The NCAA released their list of most improved women's basketball teams in Division III on Tuesday and #3 on that list was Brooklyn College.

The women's basketall team tied a school mark this past season with 19 wins while only losing 9 contests on the season, a 10 game improvement from the squad's 7-17 mark from 2007-2008.  Brooklyn trailed only Milwaukee Engineering and Westfield State who improved 11.5 and 11 games respectively.

The entire list can be found on the NCAA website below: http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/w_basketball_RB/reports/MostImproved/09D3.pdf

The season's turnaround can be attributed to an influx of talent as well as a determination in the team's returning nucleus to get better.   First Team All-Conference guard Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) was a big reason for the team's success, averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game.

Another key addition was freshman center Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) who was named conference Rookie of the Week 4 times.

Head Coach Alex Lang saw the turnaround as a tremendous accomplishment for the program.  "This accomplishment is an important one because it demonstrates the direction that our program is going in and celebrates the hard work of our players and coaches," said Lang.  "Our next challenge is to try and remain at this level and work toward competing for a championship."

The team will start practice in mid-October and begin their season at the Franklin & Marshall Tip-Off Tournament in Pennsylvania on November 21.
