Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn Women's Cross Country Team finished 3rd out of 12 teams at the York College Invitational 6K race at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday.
The team notched a score of 114, just behind 2nd place York College's score of 107 and first place Queens College who finished with a score of 102. Baruch (120), Sarah Lawrence (130), and Hunter (140) who rounded out the top six teams in what was a very close competition.
Daisy Bugarin (Mountain View / Los Angeles, CA) was BC's top finisher, placing 8th overall with a time of 28:34, earning a medal for the second time this fall.
Sophomore
Joanne Mundo (Fort Hamilton / Brooklyn, NY) medalled for the third consecutive meet, finishing 12th with a time of 29:08, while classmate
Khrystyna Uhlitskykh (Laguardia / Brooklyn, NY) finished 30th with a time of 31:24.
Leah Wimpfheimer (Brien McMahon / Norwalk, CT) came in 35th with a time of 32:15, while
Elizabeth Messina (Laguardia / Brooklyn, NY) rounded out the scoring, placing 39th with a time of 32:44.
"We ran very well today," said coach
Alex Lang. "We are showing improvement every week and should be peaking by championship time."
The women will look to continue their upward climb as they look to the College of Staten Island 6K meet next Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.
