Box Score
The Brooklyn College Men (16-5, 10-1 CUNYAC) got their 11th straight victory on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the City Tech Yellow Jackets (2-20, 1-10 CUNYAC) 72-51 at the West Quad Gymnasium on the campus of Brooklyn College.
Brooklyn started the first half slowly, as both teams could not find the basket. After the first 5:45 of play, Tech led 7-2. Brooklyn would then run off eight straight points, to take a 10-7 lead, and would not trail for the rest of the game.
Tranisition baskets from
Daniel Nisbett (Petrides / Staten Island, NY) and
Tyshawn Russell (Holy Cross / Jamaica, NY) would increase the BC lead to double-figures, and then a
Marlon Thornton (Richmond Hill / Brooklyn, NY) jumper would increase the lead to 17, before Tech would answer with a bucket of their own to cut the halftime deficit to 15, 33-18.
Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) was all over the place in the stanza, leading the team with eight points, 11 rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots.
The second half saw more back and forth action, however the Yellow Jackets were unable to cut into the Bulldog lead and Brooklyn cruised to the easy victory.
Russell led Brooklyn in the scoring column, notching 17, while Jean-Baptiste posted a 13 point, 15 rebound performance. Jean-Baptiste is now 48 points away from matching the all-time Brooklyn College scoring record of 1740, which is currently held by
Rich Micallef.
Thornton was also big off the BC bench, scoring 13 points while pulling down eight boards.
City Tech was led by junior forward Gabirel Davis (Athens Drive / Brooklyn, NY) who scored a game-high 19 points.
Brooklyn will look to extend the 11-game win streak on Monday as they host borough rival St. Joseph's College at 7:30 pm.
