New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team (3-17, 2-12 CUNYAC) earned a number seven seed in the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championship and will travel to face second seeded Hunter College (22-9, 11-2 CUNYAC)) tonight at 6:00 pm.
In head coach Trish Morris' first season at the helm of the men's volleyball team,
Guillermo Melosevich (East Side / Belleville, NY) proved to be a true force. The freshman setter totaled 494 assists on the season, good for 7.97 per game and a ranking of third in the conference.
Sophomore outside hitter
David Choy (Telecommunications / Brooklyn, NY) leads the Brooklyn attack, accumulating 147 kills on the season, while fellow sophomore outside hitter
Mohamed Taman (Valley Stream South / Valley Stream, NY) recorded 98 kills.
The Bulldog defense is steadied by middle hitters
Russell Morton (Abraham Lincoln / Brooklyn, NY) and
Konstantin Batura (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY). Morton, a sophomore, led the team with 33 blocks on the season, 17 of which were solo. A senior, Batura recorded 34 blocks, including 15 solo. Freshman
Mateusz Gotowicki (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY) caught fire late in the season, finishing with 20 total blocks in just 24 games. The team's libero,
Auston Sumitro (John Jay / Wappingers Falls, NY), a senior playing competitive volleyball for the first time, recorded 173 digs, tops on the team.
Hunter swept Brooklyn 3-0 in both of their meetings on the season.
