Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team defeated the Beavers of The City College of New York by a score of, 7-2, in CUNYAC action this afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-4 overall (3-3 CUNYAC), while the Beavers fall to 5-4 (2-4 CUNYAC).
The Bulldogs began the match up two games due to CCNY defaulting number 3 doubles and number 6 singles due to only having five players.
Freshman
Anthony Chan (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) had an outstanding day winning at number 2 singles and number 1 doubles. Chan downed Gaiell-Michell Kercy, 6-1, 7-5 and teamed up with senior
Johnny Rolando (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) to out-duel Alexander Jonsson and Steven Tran, 9-7, in a hard fought match.
Freshman
Matthew Micharlsen (Garden City, NY/Garden City) and senior
Nam Nguyen (Vietnam/Bui Thi Xuan) paired up to down Kercy and John Kantar, 8-5, in number 2 doubles. Micharlsen and Nguyen also won their respective singles matches, as Micharlsen edged Kantar, 7-5, 6-4 in number 4 singles and Nguyen defeated Oleg Dudal, 6-4, 6-0, in number 5 singles.
Brooklyn will return to action this Friday, April 16th, when the Bulldogs will travel to Staten Island, NY to take on the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC match-up. Start time is slated for 3:30 pm.
