Brooklyn, NY --- The BC Softball Team (16-13-1) had a difficult day yesterday, as they traveled to face NYU-Poly (24-8) and was defeated 16-2 (5 inn.) in the opener and 10-2 (5 inn.) in the second game of the doubleheader.
In the opener, the Bulldogs found themselves in trouble early, as the Fighting Blue Jays scored eight runs in the first inning and matched that mark in the second. Brooklyn was able to plate two runs in the first, but the deficit was insurmountable. The Bulldog offense was stalled in the first game by Laura Buzzard (Warrington, PA), who pitched four innings, giving up three hits and two runs while striking out four.
Lisa Morro (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY) hit a two RBI home run in the first for Brooklyn's only runs of the game. Freshmen Corinne Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) hit two home runs for NYU-Poly in the second inning to increase the Fighting Blue Jay lead.
The poor offensive showing continued in the night cap, as the Bulldogs could only put together five hits on the game. Pitcher Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA) shut down Brooklyn, going the complete game with eight strikeouts, giving up two earned runs.
Danielle Maresca (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) doubled and homered in the game, going two for three with an RBI. Senior
Jenna Ferrara (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) went one for three, hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
The next home game for Brooklyn is Senior Day, on Saturday, April 24, starting at 10:00 am in a doubleheader against CUNYAC foe Baruch College.
