Pomona, NJ --- The seventh seeded Brooklyn College Softball team fell to the second seeded Ospreys of Richard Stockton College today, 10-1, in the First Round of the ECAC Division III Metro Softball Championship.
Richard Stockton got on the board first in the bottom of the second, as Stephanie Darrow drew a leadoff walk, stole second and later advanced to third and scored on a pair of wild pitches.
The Ospreys would put the game out of reach in their next at-bats, plating nine runs on eight hits in the bottom of the third. Darrow's two-run single to left center highlighted the rally.
The Bulldogs would get their lone run of the game in the top of fourth from junior
Danielle Maresca's (Brooklyn, NY / James Madison) RBI single to right field that brought home freshman
Norah Marley (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Kearney). Marley led off the inning with a bunt single and later advanced to second on a passed ball to get into scoring position. Senior
Miriam Alicea (Brooklyn, NY / Fashion Industries) had Brooklyn's third hit of the ballgame.
Kaitlyn Corica (7-6) was dominant in the circle for Richard Stockton, tossing four strong innings, surrendering just one run on a pair of hits, while striking out eight of the 14 batters she faced. Kayla Kesnow pitched a scoreless fifth inning, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Freshman
Lissette Andares (Sunnyside, NY / William C. Bryant) (0-4) took the loss, giving up 10 runs on nine hits, while walking nine in four innings of work.
Brooklyn ends the 2010 season with an overall record of (16-17-1), while Richard Stockton (26-15) moves onto the double elimination round of the tournament.
