Softball Earns Postseason Bid; To Play John Jay at Lehman College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm

Brooklyn, NY --- In Head Coach Bill Dumont's debut season, the Brooklyn College Softball team (16-15-1, 7-7 CUNYAC) will head into the postseason as a fifth seed after completing their first winning season in the last four years. They will travel to face fourth seeded John Jay College on Wednesday, May 5th at 4:00 pm. The game will take place in the Bronx, NY at South Field, located on the campus of Lehman College.

The Bulldog offense was ferocious for much of the season. Brooklyn led the conference with a team batting average of .354 and had 216 total runs, good enough for 6.75 per game and the highest total in the conference. The Bulldogs also led the conference in extra base hits, doubles, and home runs with 72, 50, and 15 respectively. The team also tied with John Jay for the most hits in the conference, with 264, an average of 8.25 per game. The Brooklyn offense was tops in the conference in RBI, 174, on base percentage, .444, and slugging percentage, .501.

The leader of the offense was the number two hitter, Danielle Maresca (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY). She had a .477 batting average on the season, fourth in the conference, while compiling 12 doubles, a pair of triples, and five home runs on 42 hits for the year. She led the team with 26 RBI and an amazing .830 slugging percentage, tops in the conference. She also led the conference with 37 runs scored. Maresca, a junior, was named CUNYAC Player of the Week on March 22.

Freshman Lisa Moro (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY) has had an outstanding first campaign with the Bulldogs. After being named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week on March 22, she completed a season in which she hit for a .359 average, with five doubles, a triple, and five home runs and 23 hits. She also put together 22 RBI and a .703 slugging percentage.

Other standouts on the team are Jenna Ferrara (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) and Samantha Lombardi (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY). Ferrara, a four year player on the team, had seven doubles and a pair of home runs on the season, while hitting .394 and adding 20 RBI. A sophomore, Lomardi amassed six doubles, a pair of triples, and a home run, with a .341 batting average and 21 RBI.

The Bulldogs were fourth in the conference with a .908 fielding percentage. Standouts in the field were Maresca, with a .919 fielding percentage at third base, Ashley Allen (WC Bryant / Sunnyside, NY), with a .929 percentage at first base, and Danielle Brovakos (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY), with a .944 percentage, tops on the team for starters, while playing second.

Brooklyn and John Jay split their regular season games, each winning one a piece. In a double header on their home field, the Bulldogs took the first game 4-3 before falling in the night cap by a score of 18-10.
