Richard Jean-Baptiste Receives All-American Award

Brooklyn, NY --- Senior Men’s Basketball forward Richard Jean-Baptiste (Queens, NY / St. John's Prep) recently received his award plaque for being named to the 2010 State Farm® Division III All-America Third Team. It marked the third straight year that Jean-Baptiste has been honored as an All-American. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the All-American team by back in March.
Jean-Baptiste received numerous post-season awards this past year, as he was also named to the 2010 Division III All-District First Team – Atlantic Region, the 2010 D3Hoops.com Men's All-Atlantic Region First Team, the 2010 ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball All-Star First Team and the 2010 CUNYAC All-Star First Team.
This season, Jean-Baptiste averaged a team-best 19.4 points per game playing in a team-high 31.6 minutes per game, to go along with 6.8 rebounds per game, 2.1 steals per game, 2.0 assists per game and 1.4 blocks per game. He played a crucial role in leading the Brooklyn College Bulldogs to an overall record of 22-7 (11-2 CUNYAC), good for second in the CUNYAC South Division. The Bulldogs would go on to win the CUNYAC/Con Edison Basketball Championships for a second straight season, with Jean-Baptiste being named the Tournament Most Valuable Player for a second year in a row. In the process, Brooklyn earned the CUNYAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second consecutive season, where they fell to host Saint John Fisher, 60-56, in the opening round.
Earlier this season, on February 14th in a 102-86 victory over the College of Staten Island, Jean-Baptiste forever etched his name in the Brooklyn College record books, as he surpassed Rich Micallef (1980-1984) to become the school’s all-time leading scorer, with 1,741 points. Jean-Baptiste would go on to finish his stellar BC career with 1,847 points.
