Yuliya Orkis Garners Second CUNYAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Award

Flushing, NY --- For the second time this season, Brooklyn College sophomore Yuliya Orkis has been named the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) / Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, for the week ending October 8th.

Orkis was named the CUNYAC/HSS Women's Tennis Player of the Week earlier this season, for the week ending September 16th.

This past week, Orkis continued her stellar season posting a 3-0 record at #1 singles, to go along with a 2-0 record at #1 doubles, as the Bulldogs improved to 7-2 overall on the season and 5-0 in conference play.

Starting off the week against CUNYAC foe Lehman College, Orkis defeated Nellya Blinova in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, and also teamed up with partner Norma Lynn Chabbott to defeat the duo Blinova and Marisela Camano, 8-2.

Coming against borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), Orkis was once again victorious in both her matches, as Brooklyn cruised to a 9-0 sweep.

To cap off the week, Orkis took home a key victory against Baruch College's Patricia Correia, 6-0, 6-0, to help guide the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over the Bearcats to keep Brooklyn undefeated in CUNYAC play.

Orkis and the rest of the BC Women's Tennis team will be in action today, Wednesday, October 10th, as the Bulldogs will travel across the Verrazano Bridge to take on the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a vital CUNYAC matchup. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
