Rules & Regulations

Fitness Center

Family members under 14 years of age are not permitted in the Fitness Center.  Everyone using the fitness center must be properly attired in sweat shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt and sneakers. There are no tank-tops, street clothes (including jeans and jean-shorts), dress clothes, bags or shoes allowed in the facility.  Bags and clothing can be stored in the locker rooms located on the basement floor of the West Quad building. Everyone using the fitness center must bring a towel with them and wipe down each machine after they use it. No guests are permitted to use the fitness center at any time.

Pool

NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE POOL UNLESS A LIFEGUARD IS ON DUTY!

- All persons using the pool do so at their own risk. The responsibility of the children, their conduct and safety lies with the parent and/or guardians. No one under the age of eighteen years can enter the pool area without being accompanied by a parent/or guardian.
- Everyone must obey the directives of the lifeguard.
- No horseplay on deck or in the water.
- No running on deck.
- No diving from sides, blocks or boards.
- All swimmers must soap shower before entering pool.
- Proper swimwear is required (i.e., no cutoffs).
- Bathing caps are required if hair is longer than shoulder-length.
- Urinating, discharging fecal matter, spitting or blowing of the nose is prohibited in the pool.
- All jewelry, hair decorations (combs, clips, etc.) and bandages must be removed before entering the pool.
- Persons with open sores and rashes are not allowed in the pool without a physician’s consent.
- Proper warming up is required.
- No gum, food or drinks are allowed in the pool area, except plastic water bottles (no glass or cans).
- No unauthorized floatation devices.
- No shoes on deck.
- All children still in diapers must wear plastic sealed pants or waterproof diapers in the pool.
- Baby strollers, bags or blankets are not permitted on the pool deck.
- Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Take a heed and obey ALL signs regarding the use of lap lanes. Lifeguards will regulate lane speeds or may ask you to switch lanes. Not heeding the lifeguards instructions could lead to ejection.

Facility Admission Policy

All BC Student ID cards must be validated for the current semester for access to the facilities. SGS students must then purchase a $13.60 Recreation pass for the semester. GRAD students must then purchase a Recreation pass good for the semester for $18.60 at the West Quad ESC desk. All Faculty, Staff, Brooklyn College Alumni, Community members and Senior Citizens must purchase a six month or yearly pass from the West Quad ESC desk, good from date of purchase.  Family members under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. The parent/guardian must also be a member. No one under the age of 5 is permitted in any of the Facilities.
IMPORTANT: ALL CLASSES AND/OR ATHLETICS EVENTS TAKE PRIORITY AT ALL FACILITIES.

Attire

Everyone must wear sneakers, and shorts or sweats in all facilities. THERE ARE NO TANK TOPS ALLOWED IN THE FITNESS CENTER. Shirts must be below the waist. No midriff (abdomen) should be showing. There is NO CHANGING at any facility. NO BAGS may be brought into any facility.

Locker Rooms

Lockers are to be used on a daily basis only. Locks are provided by the Office of Recreation on a first come first served basis. No personal locks are allowed. Anyone leaving a lock on a locker, in the locker room, will have their lock clipped at any time WITHOUT NOTICE by the Office of Recreation. Anyone using any facility must change in the locker room, not in the facility. No bags are to be brought into any of the facilities. Locker rooms are open in conjunction with the recreation schedule.

General Facility Rules

There is to be NO: FOOD, DRINKS, SMOKING, ABUSIVE LANGUAGE, BAGS BROUGHT IN, DUNKING (Basketball Gym).
No one may enter a facility without a validated BC ID card. ALL PARTICIPANTS USING THE FITNESS CENTER MUST HAVE A TOWEL. T-SHIRTS MAY NO LONGER BE USED INSTEAD OF A TOWEL!

RECREATION SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON FACILITY OR STAFF AVAILABILITY. THE DIVISION OF RECREATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ADMISSION OR EJECT ANYONE, WITHOUT A REFUND OF ANY MONEY PAID, FOR VIOLATION OF ANY COLLEGE OR RECREATION RULE OR POLICY.
