Suraya Maenhout Named Brooklyn College Female Student-Athlete of the Month For September
In her second season, junior Suraya Maenhout has made an immediate impact on the Brooklyn College Women’s Tennis team as she’s been made a co-captain for the 2014-2015 season.
A City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) First Team All-Star last year, Maenhout has continued her strong play into this season, posting an overall record of 4-2 in singles play (2-1 in the CUNYAC) playing at #1 and #2 singles, including going a perfect 4-0 at #2 singles. She is also 4-2 in doubles (2-1 CUNYAC), going 2-2 at #1 doubles and 2-0 at #2 doubles.
Beginning the season on September 6th against Kean University, Meanhout won her #2 singles match, 6-0, 6-3, and teamed up with Muriel Durvich to win 8-4 at #2 doubles.
Maenhout would team up with Durvich to win at #1 doubles against CUNYAC rival College of Staten Island on September 11th.
Maenhout would again win a pair of matches against conference foe John Jay College of Criminal Justice on September 17th, winning 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles and again teaming up with Durvich for a third time to win 8-0 at #2 doubles.
The Netherlands native would go two-for-two for a third time, winning 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles to go with an 8-0 win at #1 doubles with a new partner, Yuliya Orkis against Rutgers-Newark on September 19th.
Maenhout finished the month with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win at #2 singles against Baruch College on September 23rd.
For her efforts during the month of September, Suraya Maenhout has been named the BC Female Student-Athlete of the Month.
