Egzon Gjonbalaj Named Brooklyn College February Student-Athlete of the Month
Junior Egzon Gjonbalaj had a strong finish to the 2014-2015 regular season, as well as a solid performance in the 2015 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships, in helping to lead the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish.
The 2015 CUNYAC First-Team All-Star started in all seven games in the month of February that saw the team post a 5-2 record. Logging in 36.6 minutes-per-contest, Gjonbalaj filled up the stat sheet averaging 19.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. He shot 52.0% (51-for-98) from the field, including 34.1% (14-for-41) from three.
Gjonbalaj scored 20 or more points in four games in the month, highlighted by a 27-point performance in win over Hunter College (February 6th). He also netted 26 points against Baruch College (February 17th), 24 points against Medgar Evers College (February 13th) and 22 points against Lehman College (February 25th), all wins.
In the win over Lehman, the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championships, Gjonbalaj also pulled down 10 rebounds to register a double-double. He recorded his second double-double of the month in the conference final against Baruch on February 27th with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Gjonbalaj started the conference championship with a near triple-double, as he finished the quarterfinal round game with nine points, 10 assists and seven rebounds against John Jay College on February 22nd.
For games played between February 16th-22nd, Gjonbalaj was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as well as being named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.
