Stanley Purcell Named April Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month
Stanley Purcell had a strong month of April in singles play for the Brooklyn College Men’s Tennis team that secured the #4 seed in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships.
Purcell posted a team-best 5-2 record in the month, playing at the #2, #3 and #4 flights, including a 4-1 mark in the CUNYAC.
In two matches against Lehman College, Purcell defeated Gene Nakagaki (7-5, 6-2) at #2 singles on April 18th and later defeated Al Joseph Dubiouzet (2-6, 6-4, 1-0 [10-5]) at #3 singles in a third-set super tiebreaker on April 21st.
Purcell played the majority of his singles matches at the #4 position, where he posted a 3-2 record. Purcell won his first three matches of the month all at #4, defeating Baruch College’s Allen Meyerovich (7-5, 7-6 [8-6]) on April 3rd, College of Staten Island’s Andrew Adia (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) on April 6th and York College’s Felix Liew (6-0, 6-0) on April 14th.
He would lose his first match of the month on April 15th against Hunter College’s Matthew Balili (6-2, 6-0) at #4 singles and the final match of the season against John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s Kelvin Rodriguez (4-6, 6-1, 6-0) at #4 singles in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championships on April 24th.
For his efforts during the month of April, Stanley Purcell has been named the BC Male Student-Athlete of the Month.
