Amil John burst onto the scene a year ago in January of 2009 as he returned from injury to get the first game action of his career, and since his early contributions off the BC bench, he has been a mainstay in Coach Podias' starting lineup. The month of December completed a calendar year since John's initial contributions and the 5-10 guard played outstanding basketball, helping his team to a 3-1 record, including 3 straight wins heading into finals.
John's numbers are not going to blow you away at first glance, however they are extremely efficient and consistent. During the month, he averaged 12 points per game, while playing the point guard position. Over the 4-game span, John shot an outstanding 58 percent from the field and is one of the team's primary catalysts on defense, causing pressure on opposing guards. John is currently tied for first on the team with 19 steals and is third on the squad with a 4.6 rebounds per game average.
"Amil was a big reason that we won the conference championship a year ago and he is playing even better basketball this year." said Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Podias.
John, only a sophomore, has a bright future ahead of him on the basketball court, and should be under consideration for All-Conference this season.
