The Brooklyn College Softball team is off to an impressive 7-3 start, 4-2 in the CUNYAC, and junior Danielle Maresca is a big reason for the early success.
Maresca, the team’s third baseman, has started all 10 games on the season and is hitting an imposing .417, tops on the team for regular players. She has an even more remarkable on base percentage of .632, a credit to her nine walks and being hit by five pitches. She has hit for four doubles, with five RBI, and 17 runs scored, all on just 10 hits. Maresca is also solid in the field. Playing the hot corner, she sports a .900 fielding percentage with 10 putouts and 17 assists.
Of her play, Dumont says, “Danielle has been rock solid and steady for the whole month. She has been dependable in every situation and really brought this team together.”
Maresca's best game of the month came in an 8-0 defeat of St. Elizabeth on March 18. She went 3-3 and induced a walk. All three of her hits were doubles. She also scored four times.
Maresca is an early childhood education major in her second year at BC.
