Junior point guard Amil John has been a driving force for the Brooklyn College Men’s Basketball team this season, as the Bulldogs continue their quest for a third consecutive City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship.

During the month of January, John played a vital role in helping to lead the team to a 6-4 overall record in the month, while posting a 5-2 record in the CUNYAC. John started in all 10 games for the Bulldogs in the first month of 2011, averaging 13.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while playing in 31.7 minutes per contest.

John scored in double figures in seven of the 10 games in the month. He did his most damage in BC’s 75-71 victory over conference divisional rival York College on Wednesday, January 5th, netting 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting from the field, including going 1-for-3 from beyond the arc, while also going 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

In a 95-78 win against league rival John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Thursday, January 27th, John dished out a game-high eight assists to go along with 19 points.

Within in the CUNYAC, John currently ranks 14th in scoring (13.6 ppg), 13th in field goal percentage shooting (44.6%/79-for-177), sixth in assists (3.6 apg), seventh in free throw percentage shooting (73.1%/76-for-104), first in steals (3.1 spg), seventh in assist/turnover ratio (0.9) and ninth in minutes played (32.3 mpg). Nationally, John ranks eighth in all of Division III in steals per game.

For his efforts, John has been named the Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month, for the month of January, 2011.
