Freshman middle hitter Alexander Shlivko led the Brooklyn College Men’s Volleyball team with a strong performance during the month of March, racking up 89 kills to go along with 32 digs. The Bulldogs would go on to earn the #6 seed in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) tournament, following a 5-9 league record. The five wins in the CUNYAC this season where the most conference wins for BC since the 2007 team that posted a 10-4 CUNYAC record.
Shlivko appeared in nine of the 10 games the Bulldogs played in March, totaling double-digit kills in four of those games. The rookie played in 30 sets in the month, while averaging 2.97 kills, 1.07 digs and 0.23 blocks per set.
Shlivko began the month with a match and career-high 18 kills in a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 27-29, 26-24) victory over conference and borough rival Medgar Evers College on March 1st.
In a thrilling five-set loss against league rival York College, 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 16-25, 26-24, 16-14), on March 5th, Shlivko notched a team-best 13 kills. He would again tally 13 kills, a match-best, while hitting a solid .429, in a straight sets win over borough rival NYU-Poly, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22), on March 12th.
Shlivko once again paced the BC offense in a loss to New Jersey City University, 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-13), on March 7th with a team leading 11 kills.
Within the CUNYAC, Shlivko ranks fifth in kills (3.22 Kills/Set) and 11th in Service Aces (0.28 Aces/Set). Nationally out of 100 ranked in all of Division III, Shlivko ranks 27th in Kills Per Set, 62nd in Aces Per Set and 96th in Hitting Percentage.
Shlivko was honored by the conference coaches being named a 2011 CUNYAC Second Team All-Star.
For his efforts, Shlivko has been named the BC Male Student-Athlete of the Month, for the month of March.
