Richard Jean-Baptiste has led the way for the Men’s Basketball team, which has started the 2007-08 campaign by winning three of their first four games. Richard is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 16 points per game. He scored at least 24 points in a game twice: against Greensboro College in the Old Westbury Tournament and in a home victory over SUNY Purchase. In addition to his scoring prowess, Richard is third on the team with 5.5 rebounds per game and has nine steals. Coach Steve Podias marvels at how Richard is a “difficult assignment for all our opponents because he can play both the perimeter and post and he can rebound the basketball.” Richard, who played for legendary coach Jim Gatto at St. John’s Prep, is a Queens native. He is a sophomore at Brooklyn College and is majoring in Physical Education. Richard is younger brother to assistant coach and former 1,000 point scorer for the Bridges, Jeffrey Jean-Baptiste.
