Marie Oneto Named Brooklyn College Female Student-Athlete of the Month for March
Sophomore starting pitcher Marie Oneto has been the ace of the staff on the Brooklyn College Softball team so far this season.
During the month of March, Oneto has made nine appearances on the mound, while making seven starts. In that time, Oneto has posted a 6-2 record with a 2.35 ERA. She has tossed 53.2 innings, while allowing 27 runs (18 earned) on 56 hits. Oneto also also walked 12 batters and struck out 34 batters.
Within the City University of New York Athletic Conferene, Oneto ranks first in both wins and innings pitched, while ranking second in strikeouts.
Coming against Gallaudet University on March 12th in Disney's 2012 Softball Spring Training presented by Champion, Oneto tossed six solid innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while walking one and striking out four, as the Bulldogs would go on to take a 3-2 win.
On March 17th against regional rival Purchase College, Oneto came in relief to earn her second win of the season, throwing three shutout innings, while allowing just three hits and striking out four, as BC defeated the Panthers 8-0.
Oneto had one of her best pitching performances against Farmingdale State College on March 21st, as the Brooklyn, NY native went the distance pitching seven strong innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits, while walking one and striking out three, as Brooklyn would go on to earn the 5-4 win.
Oneto would continue her stellar play on the mound for the Bulldogs, as she picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep over conference rival John Jay College of Criminal Justice, as Brooklyn took the opener 6-2 and the nightcap 5-2. In the twinbill, Oneto combined to pitch 14 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 12 hits, while giving up one walk and striking out 12.
Oneto finished the month with a gutsy pitching performance in a 10-7 win over New Jersey City University, as she tossed seven innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, while walking six and striking out six. The victory gave Oneto her fourth straight win, as she improved to 6-2 on the young season.
For her efforts during the month of March, Marie Oneto has been named the Brooklyn College Female Student-Athlete of the Month.
