Mateusz Gotowicki

Mateusz Gotowicki is in his fifth year as Head Coach of the Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball program.  His first head coaching position at the collegiate level, Gotowicki previously served as an assistant for the BC men’s volleyball program from 2015-2018.

Coming off of a conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance, the Bulldogs would head into the 2022 Season picked to repeat as CUNYAC Champions according to the Preseason Coaches poll.  BC would go on to finish 6-1 in conference play and make their third straight conference tournament championship match appearance.  The team qualified for their fourth Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament under Gotowicki and finished the 2022 campaign with a 17-14 overall record.

2021 was a breakthrough year for Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball, as the program captured its first City University of New York Athletic Conference title in 39 years and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Bulldogs defeated Hunter College in the conference championship, dethroning the six-time reigning champions.  Brooklyn clinched their first ever regular season title, entering the CUNYAC Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Since taking the helm in 2017, he helped transform the program into a CUNYAC title contender.  In 2019, the Bulldogs would play for the program’s first conference championship since 1992 after advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament in 2017 and 2018.

Inheriting a squad that finished with nine wins prior to his appointment, Gotowicki guided the 2017 Bulldogs to 17 victories, the most wins in program history at the time.  He would go on to be named CUNYAC Coach of the Year in his very first season. The 2018 team would surpass that win total, finishing with an 18-11 overall record.

Posting winning records after conference tourney play since 2017, Gotowicki’s teams have qualified for four Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship tournament appearances.

Gotowicki’s teams have produced a number of individual accolades.  Along with being named the conference’s Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2017, he has already coached two CUNYAC Players of the Year in Sarina Rozek (2017) and Michaela Appel (2018), and the last three CUNYAC Rookies of the Year in Ezri Shor (2018), Ashley Fung (2019), and Aleah Rafat (2021).  In addition, his teams have produced a number of First and Second Team CUNYAC All-Stars.

Returning to his alma mater in 2015 as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn College men’s volleyball team, Gotowicki helped guide the program to a resurgence over the next four seasons from a 1-28 mark in 2015 to back-to-back winning seasons in 2017 and 2018.

No stranger to playing the game, the Brooklyn native was a four-year member of the Brooklyn College men’s volleyball team. As a senior, Gotowicki led the team in blocks and finished third in kills.

Prior to reaching the college ranks, Gotowicki coached at the club level for the Aviator Sports Volleyball Club in Brooklyn from 2013 to 2014.

Coach Gotowicki holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Master of Science in Sports Management from Brooklyn College.  He is a physical education teacher in the New York City Department of Education at an elementary school on Staten Island.
