Men's Soccer Cannot Knock Off York But Still Clinch CUNYAC Tournament Spot

Box Score

Jamaica, NY---The BC Men's Soccer Team (2-10-1, 1-6-1 CUNYAC) made a bid to knock off first place York (10-5-1, 7-0-1 CUNYAC) on Wednesday night as they traveled to Queens, but the squad came up a goal short as they dropped a 2-1 decision.

Michel Nicolas (Newtown/Port-au-Prince, Haiti) scored two goals to lead the York to the win, helping the Cardinals finish the conference season unbeaten in CUNYAC play with a record of 7-0-1.

York struck first when Richard Amponsah (Boys & Girls/Numasi, Ghana) set up Nicolas at the 19:24 mark.  The score remained 1-0 at the half until Nicolas struck again shortly into the second half to give York a 2-0 advantage. Jean Edouard Gerlus (Newtown/Queens, NY) was credited with the assist.

Brooklyn was able to cut the lead to 2-1 after Natan Loyfman (James Madison/Brooklyn, NY) scored on a pass from Vasilios Mantagas (James Madison/Brooklyn, NY) in the 80th minute, but a red card by BC's Elis Llagami (FDR/Brooklyn, NY) shortly afterward forced the Bridges to play the remainder of the game short-handed.

The Bridges were able to clinch a spot in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament as John Jay and Hunter played to a 1-1 tie, giving Hunter 4 points in the conference standings to tie them with Brooklyn.

Because BC beat Hunter earlier this season, they own the tie-breaker and own the #8 seed heading into next week's playoffs when they will head back to Jamaica to seek revenge on York and hand them their first conference loss of the season.
