Brooklyn Wins 5-Game Nail-Biter Over Purchase

Box Score

The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team got their third win of the season on Thursday night as they edged out Purchase 30-23, 26-30, 22-30, 30-19, 16-14.

The win was very much in doubt after Brooklyn dropped the 2nd and 3rd games and were trailing 2-1 overall, but the team got a boost of energy in the 4th game as they dominated Purchase, winning 30-19.

The fourth game was very back and forth until Purchase seemingly took control with a 14-10 lead.

Jasmine Thimothe (Samuel J. Tilden/Brooklyn, NY) took her turn to serve and the momentum of the match immediately shifted as she ran off a couple of aces.  After Brooklyn took a 15-14 lead, Kerry-Ann Burton (Harry S. Truman/Bronx, NY) spiked away the games final point and BC celebrated the win.

Burton ended the match with 9 kills and Leidy Guzman (Humanities/Brooklyn, NY) notched a team-high 12 kills as well as a game-high 17 digs.

Purchase was led by senior Janina Martinez (Gorton/Yonkers, NY) who slammed home a game-high 14 kills.

Brooklyn will stay local on Saturday, traveling to borough rival Polytechnic's downtown Brooklyn campus for a 12:00 pm start.
