Old Westbury, NY---The BC Women (4-6) had four players in double-figures as they defeated Old Westbury (3-5), 81-71, in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon. The win was the squad's second over a Skyline conference opponent on the season and was their fourth in-region victory.
Old Westbury jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but Brooklyn quickly turned it around and took a 40-37 lead into halftime. Brooklyn got right back to work in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 16 points before grabbing the 10 point decision.
Christina McDonnell (Staten Island Tech/Staten Island, NY) led the offensive breakout with 27 points, while knocking down 4 three-pointers.
Senior guard Jaclyn Cavalcante (James Madison/Brooklyn, NY) knocked down 3 threes of her own while scoring 18 points and dishing out 4 assists.
Amalea Sideris (St. Demetrios/Astoria, NY) continued her outstanding play of late, chipping in with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sideris is now averaging a double-double, notching 10.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Joelle Laurenceau (Midwood/Brooklyn, NY) had her best game of the season scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 boards. Laurenceau repeatedly broke down the Panther defense as she went 8 for 13 from the field.
Pamela Robinson (Half Hollow Hills West/Wheatley Heights, NY) led the way for Old Westbury with 22 points. Ashley Freeman (Dewitt Clinton/Bronx, NY) chipped in with 17 points and 5 assists while going 3 for 8 from behind the arc.
Brooklyn will resume conference play on Thursday, January 3rd as they host South Division rival City Tech at 5:00 pm. The game will be the first half of a home doubleheader as they BC Men will take on City Tech at the conclusion of the women's game.
