Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (3-5) earned their best win of the young season as they knocked of the College of St. Elizabeth (6-2), 60-47 Saturday afternoon at the Roosevelt Gymnasium.
St. Elizabeth, who came into the game winners of six of their first seven, led for much of the first half. A late 12-5 rally by the Bridges put the home team up two at the break 27-25. The teams traded baskets early in the second half until Jaclyn Cavalcante (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) converted a lay-up to give BC a 30-29 advantage and key a 10-0 spurt by the Brooklyn offense which sealed the win.
Cavalcante and Amalea Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) were both catalysts in the win, as they each scored 14 points. Cavalcante added 6 assists and 5 steals and Sideris notched a game-high 14 boards. First-year forward Joelle Laurenceau (Midwood / Brooklyn, NY) continued her strong play as she scored 9 points while pulling down 13 rebounds.
Christina McDonnell (Staten Island Tech / Staten Island, NY) scored 10 points and added 7 rebounds while Ryane Hecker (St. Francis Prep / Corona, NY) came off the bench to score 6 points and grab 7 boards.
Bridget Sweeney (Roselle Catholic/ Roselle, NJ ) scored 13 points for St. Elizabeth, while Nina Oshiokpekhai (Mother Seton Regional/ Hillside, NJ) chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bridges travel to Purchase College for a non-conference tilt on Monday, December 10th, before a two-week lay-off for finals.
