Brooklyn Goes To 9-4 As They Knock Off Baruch, 96-84

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men (9-4, 4-2 CUNYAC) came out on fire on Saturday as they shot 59% from the field to knock of North Division leader Baruch (5-10, 4-2 CUNYAC) 96-84.

Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) scored five points in the first 80 seconds of play, as the Bridges raced out to an early 9-0 lead. A three-pointer by Marlon Thornton (Richmond Hill / Brooklyn, NY) minutes later extended BC's game-opening run to 28-4. The Bearcats then began to get on track, scoring 22 of the next 24 points to pull within four points with eight minutes remaining in the opening stanza. The team's would trade baskets over the next three minutes until consecutive shots by Sean Weismuller (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) and Enes Purisic (William C. Bryant / Astoria, NY) stretched the lead to eight points. An 8-3 Baruch rally closed the half, and sent the Bridges to the locker room with a three point lead, 42-39.

Daniel Nisbett (Petrides / Staten Island, NY) opened the second half with a lay-up that gave BC a five-point cushion. However, Arki Wisnu (Newtown / New York, NY) and George Kunkel (Archbishop Molloy / Glendale, NY) both hit jumpers to pull the Bearcats to within one point at 44-43. Baruch would close the gap to one point on two other occasions early in the second half, until an 11-4 BC run opened the gap. A three-point play by Weismuller extended the Bridges lead to 10 points, 73-63 with less than seven minutes remaining. Baruch would get no closer, as the Bridges converted on 12 of 14 foul shots in the final three minutes.

Jean-Baptiste and Nisbett each scored 26 points to lead the way for Brooklyn. Weismuller had another solidgame, scoring 17 points and pulling down 7 boards in only 26 minutes.

Baruch was paced by Lionel Hilaire (Archbishop Molloy / Far Rockaway, NY), who scored 20 points. Kunkel added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Wisnu chipped in with 15 points.

Brooklyn College will remain home on Monday as they take on Berkeley College at 7 pm in the Roosevelt Gymnasium.
