BC Women Fall at Lehman

Bronx, NY- The Brooklyn College Women (5-11, 1-6 CUNYAC) were not able to hold off the Lehman College Lightning (10-8, 6-1 CUNYAC) yesterday as they fell 93-55.

The Lightning struck first, as Sally Nnamani (Warwick / Warwick, NY) drained a three-pointer just 35 seconds into the game.  That basket spurred a 16-4 run to open the game for Lehman.  Brooklyn clawed back, outscoring the Lightning 19-18 over the final nine minutes of the opening period.  Freshman guard Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) scored the first six points of the contest for Brooklyn.

The second half began with Lehman quickly extending the lead to 18 points, as Paulie Tauzon (School of the Future / New York, NY) and Whittney Barnes (Frederick Douglass Academy / Bronx, NY) each scored six points. A 17-2 Lightning run soon added to the lead, and put the game away.  Lehman, who controlled the tempo for much of game attempted 96 shots, forced 28 turnovers, and outrebounded the Bridges 71-40.

Leading the way for the Bridges was Gordon, who had a season high 26 points and four steals.  Christina McDonnell (Staten Island Tech / Staten Island) finished just shy of a double-double, netting nine points and collecting nine caroms.  Joelle Laurenceau (Midwood / Brooklyn, NY) added nine points, while fellow forward Amalea Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) grabbed nine rebounds.

Nnamani's 27 points led all scorers in the game.  Tauzon and Barnes each added 13 points, while Tiarra Carroll (Msgr. Scanlon / Bronx, NY) distributed the ball well, finishing with 14 assists.

The Bridges stay on the road as they face CUNYAC South division foe New York City College of Technology on Friday night.
