Brooklyn Men Drop First Place Battle To York, 86-72

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men (14-5, 7-3 CUNYAC) could not complete a season sweep of Divisional foe, York College (14-6, 7-2 CUNYAC), as they lost Saturday's home contest, 86-72.

Following a Thomas Guerin (St. Edmund Prep / Brooklyn, NY) jumper, the Bridges trailed York 9-8  three minutes into the game.  The Cardinals would then erupt on a 13-2 run keyed by an Aaron Wilson (Thomas Jefferson / Brooklyn, NY) three point basket.  Brooklyn countered with a 13-0 rally of their own, taking a 23-22 lead with six minutes remaining in the period.  It would be the last lead BC would enjoy.  Rodney Bennett (Chaparral / Kingston, Jamaica) scored five consecutive points as the Cardinals took the lead for good.

Less than two minutes into the second stanza, a Daniel Nisbett (Michael J. Petrides / Staten Island, NY) trifecta tied the contest at 39-39.  Wilson hit a pair of three-pointers during the ensuing 12-2 York run that essentially cemented the game.  Omari Phipps (St. John's Prep / Kingston, Jamaica) stretched the lead to 14 points at 57-43 at the midpoint of the half.   Senior point guard Corey McFarlane (Transit Tech / Brooklyn, NY) then scored 10 points in just over two minutes, getting the Maroon and Gold to within five points at 61-56.  Brooklyn would get no closer as Wilson hit another pair of threes, giving York a double-digit lead that they would maintain for the remainder of the day.

McFarlane led the way for Brookyn as he tabbed 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while playing all 40 minutes. Nisbett and Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) each added 15 points, while Guerin contributed 14.

Wilson led York with 27 points and nine boards, while hitting a game-high six three-point field goals.

Brooklyn will remain home on Tuesday as they host a non-conference match-up with SUNY New Paltz.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
