Brooklyn Men Drop Their Second Conference Game, an 87-80 Decision To John Jay

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men (8-4, 3-2 CUNYAC) ran into a hot shooting John Jay (6-9, 2-3 CUNYAC) team on Wednesday night as they lost a 87-80 decision to the Bloodhounds.

With the game tied at 12-12 in the early going, Thomas Guerin (St. Edmund Prep / Brooklyn, NY) scored on back-to-back possessions, opening up a four point lead for BC.  John Jay would then begin a 14-4 run, keyed by three long-distance baskets from Vaughn Mason (Alfred E. Smith / Brooklyn, NY) to take a 28-20 lead.  An Enis Purisic (William C. Bryant  / Astoria, NY) jumper cut the lead to four points with five minutes remaining in the first period.  John  Jay would score the next six points, and had a ten-point lead just before halftime.

BC came out strong in the second half, and cut the lead to three points, 45-42, on a free throw by Guerin just three minutes into the period.  A lay-up from Chris Jaeger (Hicksville / Hicksville, NY) moments later again stretched the Bloodhounds lead to eight points, 54-46.  Free throws from Richard Jean-Baptsite (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) and Sean Weismuller (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) would soon pull the Bridges to within on point, 62-61.

John Jay would score six of the next eight points, and take a five point lead, 68-63, on a basket by Alex Valerio (Francis Lewis / Flushing, NY) with just over seven minutes to play.  Valerio's jumper would be the last field goal scored by the Bloodhounds in the game.  John Jay was able to stay in control by scoring 9 points from the charity stripe down the stretch.  Jean-Baptiste hit three free-throws to pull Brooklyn to within three points in the final 13 seconds, but BC, unable to steal the ball, and was forced to foul.  Emilio Gomez (Taft / Moca, DR) and Daniel Desir (Jamaica / Jamaica, NY) hit crucial foul shots in the final 10 seconds to seal the win for the Bloodhounds.

Guerin played a strong all-around game for BC, scoring 17 points, while grabbing seven boards and dishing out five assists.  Jean-Baptsite had a solid game as well, as he notched 21 points and eight rebounds, but it was not enough for the win. Weismuller dripped 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in his Brooklyn debut. Purisic was the  fourth Bridge in double-figures, finishing with 11 points

John Jay shot an impressive 7 for 14 from 3-point range and 30 for 39 from the charity stripe on their way to their second conference win. Miguel Garcia (St. Raymond's / New York, NY) led the Bloodhounds as he came off the bench to score 16 points and grab a game-high 9 rebounds in only 26 minutes of play.  Valerio added 15 points, while Mason chipped in with 14.

Brooklyn will be looking to get back on track on Saturday as they face North Division leader, Baruch College, who will enter the game with a 4-1 conference mark.
