Women's Tennis Earns Big Conference Win With 7-2 Victory Over Lehman

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (7-3, 5-1 CUNYAC) got back to their winning ways on Friday afternoon as they defeated Lehman College (5-9, 4-3 CUNYAC) by a score of 7-2.

Brooklyn began the match by taking two of three in doubles play, as they were victorious in the #2 and #3 matches.

Joy Rotstein (Ezra Academy/Brooklyn, NY) and Erika Gil (Fort Hamilton/Brooklyn, NY) teamed up to defeat Lehman's #2 duo of Gabriela Harewood (Brooklyn Tech/Bronx, NY) and Mina Jeung (Kinau/Kinau, S. Korea), by a score of 8-2.

At #3 doubles, Svetlana Khvatikova (Youth DARES/Brooklyn, NY) and Ogechi Egbuchulam (Midwood/Brooklyn) teamed up to ease their way passed Lehman's Dalia Rodriguez (Fashion Industries/Bronx, NY) and Amaia Liriano, 8-0.

In singles play, Brooklyn pulled away, taking five of the six matches, including #1, where Ruth Perez (EBC Bushwick/Brooklyn, NY) took a 6-1, 6-3 decision, in a highly competitive match.

Rotstein was unable to get by Lehman's Aurora Peters (Jamaica/Hollis, NY) as the Lightning struck for their only singles win of the day, 6-4, 6-2.

Nadine Alexander (Boys & Girls/Brooklyn, NY) was on top of her game as she defeated Harewood, 6-1, 6-2 at #3 singles.

Erika Gil handed Lehman's Jeung a 6-0, 6-1 defeat in the #4 match, while Khvatikova eased by Rodriguez in the #5 slot, 6-0, 6-1.

Egbuchulam was equally as dominant as she defeated Lehman's Juyoung Kwon (Kinau/Kinau, S. Korea) 6-1, 6-0.

The win ended a two-match losing streak for the squad and also clinched the team of finishing no lower than 3rd in the conference regular season standings.

The team will continue conference action tomorrow as they travel across the Verrazano to take on CUNYAC rival Staten Island at 12:00 pm.
