Bridges Fall to Dolphins; Secure Fifth Seed in Soccer Playoffs

Box Score

Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team (5-8-2, 3-3-2 CUNYAC) lost a late lead and dropped a 3-2 conference decision at the College of Staten Island (4-12-1, 4-4 CUNYAC).  Despite the loss, the Bridges solidified thier position as the number five seed in the upcoming 2008 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Tournament.

Playing with thier eye on a possible number four seed and home field advantage in the opening round, the Bridges came out aggressive.  Barely two minutes into the game, Vasilios "Billy" Mantagas (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) crossed a ball into the box that found a wide open Vasyl Palinchak (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY), who placed a slow moving shot into the goal to give Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

Just over two minutes later, Sam Musovic (Bertholt Brecht / Loegne, Germany) was fouled just outside the Brooklyn penalty box.  Musovic's free kick hit the crossbar and caromed to Konstantinous Koulouris (Staten Island, NY), who headed the ball into the net past Brooklyn keeper Michael Conway (Xaverian / Brooklyn, NY) to even the score. The stalemate continued for the next 41 minutes of the half, and the teams remained deadlocked into intermission.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Palinchak fired a quick shot which beat CSI keeper Pavel Bespalov (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY), giving the Bridges the lead back at 2-1. The Dolphins retaliated quickly.  In the game's 55th minute, Musovic scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 2-2.

With just over a minute to play, Musovic found  Jason Ribeiro (St. Peter's / Staten Island, NY) who buried his 15th goal of the season off of a breakaway, securing Staten Island's 3-2 win.

As the five seed, Brooklyn will again face Staten Island in the opening round of the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Tournament.  Game particulars will be announced shortly.  Continue to check www.brooklyncollegeathletics.com for further updates.
