Women's Tennis Eliminated in Semifinals by Baruch

Box Score

Flushing, NY --- The number three-seeded Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (10-6, 6-2 CUNYAC) were eliminated from the 2008 Hospital for Special Surgery / CUNYAC playoffs by second-seeded Baruch College (14-2, 7-1 CUNYAC).  The match, played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center was won by the Bearcats 5-1.

The Brooklyn tandem of Ruth Perez (EBC / Brooklyn, NY) and Olexandra Ovsiy (American / Dneopropetrusk, Ukraine) earned an 8-6 win at Number One Doubles, but that would be the only point earned by the Bridges.

The final score was not a true indication of how close the match actually was as Brooklyn won the first set in #1, #2 and #3 singles but those matches were not completed as Baruch took #4 singles, giving them the 5 matches that they needed for the victory.

While they did not move onto the championship round, the Brooklyn squad had their second consecutive 10-win season and 3rd place conference finish.  First-year coach Lya Kushnirovich did a tremendous job with a young team and the squad should see improvement in 2009.
