Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (6-2, 4-0 CUNYAC) lost for the first time since their season opener, falling to non-conference foe Farmingdale State (6-5) 5-4.
The Bridges dropped two of three doubles flights, with only the pair of Joy Rotstein (Ezra Academy / Brooklyn, NY) and Nadine Alexander (Boys and Girls / Brooklyn, NY) earning the point.. Brooklyn battled back, taking three of five singles flights to even the score 4-4. Alexander joined Svetlana Khatikova (Youth DARES / Brooklyn, NY) and Ogechi Egbuchulam (Midwood / Brooklyn, NY) in scoring victories.
With all the other matches long over, the Number Two Singles competition between Farmingdale's Jess Gentile and Brooklyn's Olexandra Ovsiy (Dnepropetrousk, Ukraine / American) was the deciding contest of the afternoon. Gentile took the first set 6-3 before giving way to Ovsiy by the same count. In the third and deciding set, the two batted to a 5-5 deadlock, only broken when Gentile recorded two consecutive points to seal the victory for the Rams.
The Bridges return to the court tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm, hosting CUNYAC rival Baruch College.
