Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team (6-9-2, 3-3-2) lost a heartbreaker to Hunter College (11-7-1), falling 2-1 in overtime in the 2008 CUNYAC semifinals on Saturday.
The Bridges took control of the game from the opening whistle, as senior
Elis Llagami (Franklin D, Roosevelt / Brooklyn, NY) scored just two minutes into the contest. Brooklyn then clamped down on the defensive end and made the 1-0 lead stand up well into the second half. A free kick by Hunter caromed off the the crossbar and found Mauro Ortiz (EBC Bushwick / Brooklyn, NY), who managed to squeeze through the game-tying goal.
Both teams battled through to the end of regulation, and there were striking similarities to the regular season match-up between Hunter and Brooklyn that ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie. However postseason soccer needs a winner, and on this day it would be the Hawks. Oscar Dotti (Mamaroneck / Mamaroneck, NY) headed a long cross into the goal from less than 10 yards out to send the top-seeded Hawks to the title game.
