Box Score

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (4-2, 1-1 CUNYAC) dropped an 84-73 decision to the College of Staten Island (7-1, 2-0 CUNYAC) in an early season showdown for supremacy in the CUNYAC's South Division.

Brooklyn opened the game with a pair of Eja Wong (Chatsworth (CA) / New York, NY) jumpers bookending a Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) lay-up to give the Bridges a 6-3 lead. Mallory Amenieros (St. Peter's / Staten Island, NY) then hit a three-pointer to knot the game at six.  After a BC turnover, Kristin Panariello (St. Joseph by the Sea / Staten Island, NY) finger roll broke the tie and gave the visiting Dolphins a lead they would not relinquish.

A three-pointer from Panariello boosted the Dolphins lead to 10 points, 25-15, midway through the opening half.  The Bridges then settled in, starting a 13-3 run highlighted by a pair of long-range missiles from Priscilla Ramirez (Franklin D. Roosevelt / Brooklyn, NY).  BC trailed by two points, 30-28 with just under four minutes to play in the opening stanza.  A three-point play by Wong in the waning seconds of the period sent the Bridges to the locker room down one, 34-33.

The Dolphins scored the first six points after the break, and soon saw their lead increase to 11 points on a lay-up from Allie Shanahan (St. John Villa / Staten Island, NY).  Brooklyn briefly brought the deficit into single digits, as Megan Davidson (St. Edmund Prep / Brooklyn, NY) converted a lay-up five minutes into the period.  CSI upped the lead to 15 points midway through the stanza as Melanie D'Ambrosi (St. Joseph Hill / Staten Island, NY) hit a pair of foul shots.

Ramirez led the Bridges with 22 points and three other starters scored in double-figures. O'Callahan posted a double-double, netting 10 points and 12 points.  Wong added 12 points, while Demi Quintana (Abraham Lincoln / Brooklyn, NY) added 11.  For the Dolphins, D'Ambrosi collected 26 points to lead four players in double-digits.

The Bridges will next play on Saturday afternoon against Purchase College in the CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Lehman College. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
