Brooklyn Wins Fourth Straight, Knocking Off Yeshiva, 76-61

Box Score

New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Men (18-5) handled Yeshiva University (8-11) on Monday night, defeating the Maccabees, 76-61.

The first seven minutes were a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to seize control.  Clinging to a 13-12 lead, the Bridges erupted on a 16-5 run over the next six minutes as Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) scored seven straight points to push the lead to 11 points.  The Maccabees caught fire over the final four minutes of the period, outscoring Brooklyn 14-2 to take a one-point edge into the locker room at 32-31.

The Bridges took the lead for good less than three minutes into the second half as Jean-Baptiste picked off an errant pass and drained a long-distance jumper.  That propelled BC to an 11-2 rally that saw the lead swell to 46-38.  Yeshiva stayed close, getting to within four points on four separate occasions within the next eight minutes of play.  The Bridges, who shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the third consecutive game, used a game-ending 20-7 stretch to seal the victory.

Jean-Baptiste eclipsed the 30-point  plateau for the second consecutive game, finishing with 31 points and 13 rebounds.  Corey McFarlane (Transit Tech / Brooklyn, NY) added 17 points and a game-high six assists.  Sean Weismuller chipped in with 13 points for the Bridges.

Zachary Gordon (RASG Hebrew Academy / Miami FL) led Yeshiva with 17 points and 10 boards.

Brooklyn will hope to continue their streak on Wednesday as they return home to face CUNYAC South Division rival Medgar Evers.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm in the Roosevelt Gymnsaium.
