Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women (6-17, 2-10 CUNYAC) got a home win on Wednesday night as they downed divisional rival Medgar Evers (5-18, 3-10 CUNYAC), 75-60.
The Bridges opened the game by jumping out to an 18-8 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back. An 8-0 Cougars run followed, Medgar Evers could get no closer than 18-16 as a pair of foul shots from Christina McDonnell (Staten Island Tech / Staten Island, NY) and a triple from Ashley Allen (WIlliam C. Bryant / Sunnyside, NY) brought BC back to a seven point cushion. Brooklyn would lead by as many as 10 points in the period, and went into the locker room holding a 33-26 edge.
A three point basket from senior guard Jaclyn Cavalcante (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) coupled with an Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) lay-up stretched the BC lead to 13 points 45-32 with 12 minutes to play in the second stanza. The lead would remain in double-figures for the remainder of the game as the Bridges shot a season-high 53 percent (8-of-19) from behind the arc in the second half.
McDonnell had her third straight game of more than 20 points, scoring a game-high 25, while hitting on 4-of-9 three-pointers.
