Purchase, NY-- The Brooklyn College Softball team (7-9) split a road doubleheader with SUNY Purchase (8-14) yesterday. In the first game of the day the Bridges defeated the Panthers 14-4, but Purchase came roaring back in the second game to earn a 13-5 win.
In the first game, senior pitcher Jaime Bellettini (Franklin K. Lane / Glendale, NY) had a solid day on both sides of the plate going six solid innings and striking out six Panthers. At the plate Bellettini had two hits and six runs batted in. Jenna Ferrara (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY), who was just named CUNYAC Player of the Week, also had a solid day at the plate getting two hits and driving in one run.
In the night cap, the Bridges could not match the Panther offense. BC started off strong with an early 1-0 lead, and then increased the lead to 3-2 in the third inning. The Panthers came back to score four in the bottom of the third and added two more runs in the fourth to secure the victory. Junior Patricia Orellana (H.S. for Economics / New York, NY) had three hits and drove in six runs for the host panthers. The Bridges were led in game two by Bellettini, Ferarra, and Nataly Yehezkel ( James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) who each had a hit.
The Bridges return to Floyd Bennett Field for a 12:00 pm conference match-up against York College. The two teams will first finish off the suspended match-up from April 2nd before playing the regulary scheduled double header.
