Game 1 Box Score
Jamaica, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball Team (3-5, 1-2 CUNYAC) took the first game of a doubleheader from conference foe York College on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 13-2. The Bridges were leading 13-5 after three innings in the second game when darkness forced a suspension of play.
The Bridges struck early in the opener, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. First baseman Ashley Allen (William C. Bryant / Sunnyside, NY) singled home centerfielder Christina McDonnell (Staten Island Tech / Staten Island, NY) for the game's first tally. After a Cardinals error allowed a pair of runs, Kaylin Taunton (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) drew a bases-loaded walk for her first RBI of the season. Left fielder Nataly Yehezekel (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) added an run-scoring single later in the frame.
BC again exploded in the top of the fifth inning, taking advantage of five free passes and a pair of errors by York to score seven times. Allen, Taunton, and McDonnell each plated a run for the Bridges in that frame.
Brooklyn senior Jaime Bellettini (Franklin K. Lane / Glendale, NY) was dominant in the pitcher's circle, yielding only two hits while striking out a season-high ten batters in five innings of work, collecting her second win of the season.
The second game started with a bang, as the Bridges scored 10 times in the top of the first. However, darkness prevailed after the third inning forcing a suspension of play. The game will be continued on Saturday, April 19 prior to the regularly scheduled Brooklyn-York doubleheader at Floyd Bennett Field.
The Bridges next play at CUNYAC opponent New York City College of Technology on Friday, April 4. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
