Newark, NJ---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (0-1) ran into a tough opponent in Rutgers Newark (4-1) as they began their 2008 season with an 8-1 loss.

Nadine Alexander (Boys & Girls / Brooklyn, NY) was the lone winner for BC as she took her #6 singles match, 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 over Rutgers Newark's Amanda Northrup (St. Rose / Brick, NJ).

Erika Gil (Fort Hamilton / Brooklyn, NY) put up a good fight in her first collegiate singles match, but after she fell 7-5 in the first set of her #4 singles match, Kelly Fitzsimmons (Middlesex / Middlesex, NY) made quick work of her (6-1) in the second set.

The team returns home on Wednesday as they will host Kean University in a 4:00 pm start.  The match will the first of the season played on the Roosevelt Courts.
