Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (14-6, 6-3 CUNYAC) dropped a 76-55 decision to Lehman College (12-8, 7-2 CUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The game started off with BC and Lehman trading the lead five times in the first nine minutes of play. A jumper by
Priscilla Ramirez (Franklin D, Roosevelt / Brooklyn, NY) gave the Bridges a 23-21 lead with seven minutes remaining the opening stanza. Back-to-back three-pointers from Tonisha Kirby (New Hampton / Bronx, NY) ignited an 8-0 rally for the Lightning, who would never again trail in the contest. A three-pointer by Ramirez briefly knotted the score at 34-34 in the final two minutes of the period, until a Simone Byrd (Laramie Senior / Laramie, WY) lay-in gave Lehman a two-point cushion at the intermission.
The Bridges kept it close in the early minutes of the second half, as
Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) and
Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) each converted turnovers into baskets. The Lightning then took over, fashioning a 19-6 run highlighted by another three from Kirby and a lay-up by Barbara Febus (Cushing Academy / Bronx, NY). Lehman would push the lead to as many as 23 points on a Febus three-point play with 3:53 to play.
Ramirez netted 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds en route to a double-double for the Bridges, who also recieved 14 points from Gordon. Kirby led all scorers with 24 points, while Febus chipped in with 14 and a game-high of six steals. Monique Sampson (Cathedral / Bronx, NY) collected 13 rebounds in the victory.
BC next plays on Wednesday evening, hosting CUNYAC South Division foe Medgar Evers at 5:30 pm. The game will be played at Brooklyn's Roosevelt Gymnasium.
