Women's Tennis Loses Tight Contest to End Regular Season

Box Score

With the CUNYAC tournament beginning next week, the Women's Tennis team (10-5) lost a close non-conference contest to the Sarah Lawrence College Grphyons, 5-4. The defeat snapped Brooklyn's six game win streak and denied the Bridges from surpassing last year's win total for the time being.

The day began in good fashion for BC, with Olexandra Ovsiy (American / Dnepropetrousk, Ukraine) Ruth Perez (EBC Bushwick / Brooklyn, NY) winning their #1 and #2 singles matches, respectively, with relative ease.

However, Sarah Lawrence won the remaining four singles flights to put the Gryphons up 4-2 overall. The tide seemed to turn when Laura Fenney defeated reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week Nadine Alexander (Boys and Girls / Brooklyn, NY) in the #3 singles flight. In a marathon match that lasted nearly two hours, Fenney prevailed 10-9.

The Bridges bounced back to take the first two doubles flights with Perez and Ovsiy taking the #1 match 8-2, and Alexander and Erika Gil (Fort Hamilton / Brooklyn, NY) winning in the #2 slot 8-4. In the game's final match, the Gryphons prevailed 8-5 to claim victory.

BC is now off until October 20, when the Bridges will host the first round of the CUNYAC Quarterfinals as the #2 seed.
