The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team (4-11-2), the #8 seed in the CUNYAC Tournament, could not pull of the upset of #1 seeded York College on Thursday as they fell to the host Cardinals, 4-2.
York's combo of Francisco Flores (William C. Bryant / Cali, Colombia) and Elysee Vilsaint (South Shore / Port-Au-Prince, Haiti) were too much for BC as Flores scored twice as Visaint notched assists on both goals.
Brooklyn did get two scores of its own as
Muhammad Mutawakil (Ulul-Alab / Nigeria) scored on a pass from
Rondel King (Abraham Lincoln / Trinidad & Tobago) for the first tally.
The second goal came on a corner kick as
Miguel Feliz-Fitz (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) set up
Adley Raymond (Erasmus / Brooklyn, NY) for the goal.
Brooklyn goalkeeper
Azad Kafarov (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) tallied 8 saves on the day in defeat.
Coach
Rawle Hensford was disappointed with the loss, but looked at the game as a learning experience for his young squad. "With only three returning players on this year's team, it was a great experience for our younger guys to see what it takes to be successful on this level," said Hensford. "The entire team, coaching staff and players, showed hard work and dedication throughout the season and should be commended for their effort."
York will move on to the semifinal round, where they will face Medgar Evers College at the College of Staten Island on Saturday, October 31, at 11:30 am.
