BC Women Move Into 1st Place In South Division Standings With 76-64 Win Over CSI

Staten Island, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (3-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) used a 44-point second half to pull away from Staten Island (2-4, 1-1 CUNYAC), 76-64 on Thursday Evening.  With the victory, the Bulldogs move into First Place in the CUNYAC South Division Standings.

"This was a huge win for the growth of our program," said Head Coach Alex Lang.  "Staten Island has traditionally controlled the South Division, and therefore, moving ahead of them in the standings is a great feat for our team."

Senior Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) played a big role in the win, scoring 18 points and dishing out a team-high 9 assists, while Amber Gordon (BIshop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) scored a game-high 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting.

Transfers Ariel Smith (Wallkill / Newburgh, NY) and Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) had huge games for BC.  Smith was three assists away from a triple-double as she scored 14 points, grabbed 11 boards and handed out 7 assists.  Lyons notched her 4th double-double of the young season, scoring 16 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the win.

"Ariel and Frances made huge plays when we made our second half run," said Coach Lang.  "As they continue to mesh with the team, we will keep improving as a unit."

Staten Island was led by Allie Shanahan (St. John Villa / Staten Island, NY) who scored 19 points and pulled down 8 boards.

Brooklyn will look to continue their 2-game win streak on Saturday as they travel to non-conference foe Vassar College on Saturday.
