Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team (0-1) traveled up to the Bronx on Tuesday afternoon to start their 2009 season with a non-conference game against Maritime College (1-0). The team was turned away by the home Privateers, falling 5-0.
Led by first-year head coach Rawle Hensford, the team went into the game with tempered expectations as they have a very young squad with only one returning starter.
The game proved to be a tale of two halves as the two squads, both playing in their first games this season, went scoreless in the first stanza, leaving the game tied at 0-0 at the half. Brooklyn freshman goal keeper Anthony Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) led the way with 4 saves in his first career start.
The second half the Brooklyn defense could not hold as Maritime was able to score five unanswered goals, giving them their first win of the year. Maritime was led by sophomore Cesur Alagos, who scored 2 goals and dished out an assist during the 5-goal second half.
Brooklyn will be back to action on Saturday as they remain on the road to play non-conference foe Berkeley College at 3:30 pm.
